Oregon Timber Frame 2023
Переглядів 49510 місяців тому
I (and Molly for most of it) spent the past couple weeks in Oregon where I was helping Tom Bonamici on a timber frame he’d been commissioned to build. Truly, one of my absolute greatest pleasures in life is helping friends with their projects and I’m grateful I’m able to do it as often as I do. This one was especially enjoyable because Tom’s so lovely, the project was fun, and the location coul...

Pig butchering and potluck
Переглядів 2,7 тис.7 років тому
Been putting these on in SF from time to time. We buy a pig from a local farm. Break it down into cuts and each person gets about 10-15 lbs. Then we have a meal at the end with some of the better cuts. Takes about 3 hours to turn the pig into packaged meat.

DEFINITELY NOT A TREE HOUSE..
Beautiful idea, i love this. One of these days ill definitely build myself a tiny A-frame ❤
Awesome ❤
So lucky you had dirt that you could use an augur!
very beautiful work very beautiful than k you .God bless
Thank you for sharing the process of building a very professional and perfect cabin. The finished cabin is very beautiful and convenient.
Bel montaggio. Strano che in tutto il video non si veda neanche un bambino...
what was the approximate cost though?
about 40k total. For the building, plus furnishing, solar, etc.
very very nice!!!
When a group of nerds go build a cabin… XD Looks great guys
J I'll
Can I also be friends with you guys? 😊
Домик из картона.😂
развести онь в печи что бы что?
Where is the bathroom? But good job anyway!
Outhouse. You can see photos of it on elevatedspaces.ca But I also sell a version of this cabin plan with a bathroom built into it.
The world is your bathroom.
I got Lumbago, let me watch you work ;)
Fantastic brother!!!
minimalist , funcitional and pretty great job
Not the RDR2 song lololol
Great simple design. I love the mono-pitch roof, great kitchen layout, great little woodburning stove, cosy loft, good use of drywall - you didn't go overboard (no pun intended ;-) on the wood... And that porch! A great example of how less can be so much more. Enjoy!
❤
Is this in Marin County?
Good music! Nice build! Can’t wait to get started on my work.
"Waldman" ~ translates to "Forest man" in german
What a group of friends
I wrote about that, here and in a few other posts. open.substack.com/pub/jeffwaldman/p/where-do-you-find-friends-to-help
Beautiful project! Is there any reason why you didn't use ground screws instead of concrete for the foundations? Can't help but think this could have saved a ton of labour, money and ecological impact.
Just a lack of familiarity. I've since come to appreciate ground screws and would look to use them.
where’s the bathroom? where’s the fresh water coming from? where’s the grey water going? where does the electricity come from?
Outhouse. Local water company. Solar. You can see some more stuff on elevatedspaces.ca
Почему так круто
I wonder what it's like to have so many friends IRL. I have like... 4 people I know who I see with any consistency. Honestly the weirdest part of the whole thing. Cabin looks great.
I wrote about this: jeffwaldman.substack.com/p/where-do-you-find-friends-to-help
Family, church, other people wanting to stay in the house for a week(end).
No shit! This is like a whole freaking neighborhood lol
I've never seen a big group of friends having this good of a time building this good of a cabin. Good design choices and well executed!
I wrote about this: jeffwaldman.substack.com/p/where-do-you-find-friends-to-help
Looks like a blast.
Nice video, beautiful spot. What did you use on the interior walls?
Birch plywood
Can you give a cost estimate, for those who consider this
We spent about $35k USD
I liked so much about this build. Cutting down trees must have an excellent reason. The results are spectacular.
Greetings from Greece 🇬🇷.
Daaamn, the build quality is way better than 90% of teh internet! Noice! :)
I don't know about all that. But thank you. You can find some other photos and details at www.elevatedspaces.ca if you're curious.
❤The homemade cabin is very beautiful and impressive
Found your video at random. Love the cabin and the location is awesome. Odd question for you, when everyone in the video is there, where does everyone sleep?
We were all camping
If you check out some of the other videos on UA-cam, or photos on our website, you can see some of the camping setups. Keep in mind that well folks may be in hammocks or tents, we had a lot of other amenities to keep things comfortable.
love it and thank you for answering@@jeffreywaldman

Nothing to say but wow, wow, wow! Great job.😘🤩😍
Thank you.
It's been awhile. I've gotten so much inspiration from your project.
Thanks! If you check the Writing tab on the site, or follow on Instagram, you can see some updates on a current cabin build.
@@jeffreywaldman Awesome, thank you for the top tip. That will keep me busy this week. I appreciate you pointing that out.
"Affordable" You had about £20,000 worth of tools to begin with. I have hammers, spanners, a handsaw and few other bits. I think it can still be done with a basic tool setup no?
It's $4k in tools. But I hear your point. I also had the car to get there. and the land too build on. and the food to eat in the years leading up to it. and the $300k that has kept me alive since birth. Where would you like to draw the line? What privileges of yours would you like to include or not include in the list of ALL things that make projects possible and/or easier? Just curious. You need a hand saw, a hammer, a level, and a drill. A circular saw and speed square would help speed things up. In the plans I cover essential tools and more recommended ones. A bevel gauge would help with figuring out some of the rafter angles. And some tin snips would be very useful to make your metal roof trim pretty.
Very cool. Congrats.
@jeff what's the snow load on this thing?
As designed this cabin is good for 140mph wind load and 30psf snow load. To meet larger snow load requirements you'd just need to size up the rafters. The current rafters are a 2x6 super structure that just rests atop the building, so sizing it up is pretty trivial... they can be any size you want without changing any of the rest of the plans. 2x8, 2x10, 2x12, etc. Insulation goes in between them, so sizing up also allows for more roof insulation. You're welcome to download the plans and run them by your county, or a local builder, or a local engineer, or whatever. Feel it out. If you find they won't work for your project I'll get you a refund, no problem. Hope that helps.
@@jeffreywaldman thank you. I was just curious. We built this without the superstructure on top. And we've got about 2.5 ft of snow up here today. Was just thinking about how much it would take.
@@RedPeakFilm Lets see some photos! What is your rafter setup without that structure then? You must have something to have the overhanging roof (which is the super structure I was talking about). Also worth noting that my numbers error on the side of caution by quite a bit.
@jeffreywaldman where should I send pice? I have it on my fb. But we did 22' 4x8's and just overhang them.
@@RedPeakFilm Jeffrey.waldman@gmail.com You keep the 4x8s spaced at 4' or did you do more of them?
Would really like to see more of the construction of this.
This is a very high-quality well-prepared reference DVD which is . ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx-b91_bYU48sOwHX-XC49tRRXRxcnOmZm Ryan's Shed Plans are very easy to read with excellent illustrations. The author does a great job of explaining in easy to understand terms at just the right level for the average do-it-yourselfer. I highly recommend Ryan's Shed Plans.
The installer did a thorough job installing and had some good tips on how to help preserve the shed. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx8CcyN6o1ejzQFIkabM3kaq93DfYKBg7z The product looks nice, cannot attest to the quality, it has been 3 days.
Nice little hut… definitely not a tree house. That’s a house that is in a grove of trees. Big difference.
Very cool 😎👍🏻
That’s really cool! I love it!
